Teen Problem – February 27, 1992

A major problem that faces teens is pregnancy. I know that this is a very touchy subject when it comes to school. I really don’t understand how some people could be so irresponsible. It does no good to tell kids not to have sex, because everyone is always curious, but I just think that stressing protection is the main thing to focus on. People, I believe, have taken the wrong approaches. Some people try threatening the  kids, but thatjust makes them want to do it just to spite whoever told them that.  (Note in the margin from the teacher: I agree – children/adolescents are naturally rebellious) Some people try to scare them into it, but they just blow them off. I think the only thing that really makes them stop and think is for it to happen to a close friend, so they can see the consequences week by week. The bad thing is, that sometimes even that doesn’t do any good. I’m not the sort of person that can do something so blatantly stupid and spontaneous. Let’s compare it to the old diet saying "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips".
