Their wallet / yours – March 25, 1992
I don’t think that everyone who says they would return the wallet would, but some of them probably would actually end up returning it. Some of them would return it because they are simply honest, and others because of a guilty conscience. Then again, the ones who would keep it might philosophize "Finders keepers, losers weepers". Some people find that as justification enough, so they can go on with no guilt. If I kept it, I’d feel bad forever just about. I don’t know really what I’d do. I hate trying to say what I’d do in a situation that I’ve never been in. My opinions can change from day to day, depending on my frame of mind. I like to just "wing it" when I have to make a decision. It usually comes out better that way. I don’t think anyone that ever found my wallet would return it, unless they were a close friend. But, then, a complete stranger could find it and give it back. People can surprise you sometimes.
