It’s not often in life that reality imitates art or, in this case, the movies. But, alas, today I did, in fact have, a made-in-Hollywood moment. During my daily walk around the park near my house, I stopped to feed some of the critters – the black-capped chickadees, to be precise, who, as strangely as it may seem to the average city-dweller, will eat right out of your hand, which I still find incredibly cool! As I stood with my hand out waiting for the birdies to dine and dash, I saw tiny flakes of snow start falling.
I knew there was snow in the forecast for later in the day, but it was one of those moments you see in the movies where someone is standing outside in the cold and the snow starts falling and they look up and close their eyes and let the snowflakes land on their eyelashes while a smile spreads across their face. There’s somehow something so magical about the first snow of the year, especially when you feel like you’re the first person seeing the first flakes falling.
So, there I was, chin up, eyes closed, predictable grin sprawled across my face with snowflakes fluttering down. I always knew I could be an actress! 😉
There’s now about three or so inches of snow outside and it’s just beautiful. Being a Southerner (and now that I don’t live in the dreaded Montreal where snow is a semi-permanent landscape fixture), I find snow incredibly novel. It always brings out the kid in me – “yes, let’s take the toboggan out for a spin!” and I feel compelled to go walk through it with a stupid smirk affixed to my face. The trees outside my front window all have several inches of fluffy white piled on all their bare twigs. Even the tropical palm-looking shrubs are blanketed, which I find somewhat ironic and mildly humourous.
I feel like a little kid the night before Christmas….I am so excited about what’s in store for the morning (please refer to the aforementioned toboggan), I can’t picture sleeping, but I know that if I could manage, the morning would only come quicker!
Happy 26th of November to all and to all a good night!
