Spending time alone can be so liberating and the best part is that there’s no need for any compromise whatsoever! You can watch what you want on TV, eat what you want for dinner, get up and go to bed whenever you want and, as seems to be the case with me lately, wait until nearly everyone else in the entire city has gone to bed and then go out for a walk to get groceries. I can’t help it – it’s just so much more enjoyable to exist when there’s very few other people around to cause me aggravation!
I have been watching theFood Network (not FoodTV cuz I live in Canada) a lot lately for some reason. It seems like I have interests that cycle around after a number of years in hibernation. When I was right out of high school, I used to watch FoodTV all the time – this is when Emeril was boring as hell and his show was called The Essence of Emeril, well before his “BAM!” days. Watching the chefs cook on all these shows makes me want to learn my way around the kitchen better and has inspired me to buy some new stuff for the kitchen lately – good knives and a few other utensils crucial to successful duplication of TV chef meals.
I went to the store to get the missing ingredients to prepare my very first solo Thanksgiving meal. Since it’s just going to be me, I am not going into the full shabang, but planning a quicker, easier version of the traditional fare. Besides, I have to save my holiday cooking strength for my trip back home to Louisiana for Christmas!
On a completely different note, a friend of mine introduced me to the cutest web site I’ve seen in a long time – www.petster.com – which is similar to MySpace, but it’s a place to upload photos and info about your pets or animals that are available for adoption. For folks like me who have fur-kids instead of those of the human variety, it’s a place where, in typical parent fashion, you can upload photos and talk all about your critters, all the while convinced others want to see the pictures and read all about them. What is it with people who have kids anyway? They always think everyone wants to see photos of their kids! lol On the Petster site, your pets can have a list of other pets on the site as friends, can write blog entries, send each other a pat on the head – all around, a super cute idea, if I do say so myself. Yes, I’m a total geek on the inside, but my cool/geek ratio is very well-balanced these days, thankyouverymuch!
I got my letter to appear to take the Oath of Citizenship for Canada on December 20th, which is pretty exciting. After having begun the immigration dance nearly 8 years ago, it will be quite welcome closure to that chapter in my life. The last step once I have my Certificate of Citizenship in-hand will be to apply for a Canadian passport – I’ll soon be a certified Dually!
I could keep going on until I run out of things to say, but then what would my loyal following (yeah right) have to look forward to in my next post? lol
