Seek and Ye Shall Find

As you may have guessed, this entry is about my latest geocaching expedition! lol I went out this afternoon to Burnaby Lake Park with the coordinates in hand for three of the caches that were hidden in the area.  I parked my car at the film studio where my partner is working this weekend and had to cross the railroad tracks that run next to the park.  There was a train parked there and the first part of my adventure included me scaling a rail car and climbing across it to get to the other side – there was no way I was going to walk miles down the road to try to find the end of the train to cross that way!

So, with my spiderman-like moves behind me, I set off towards the first cache on my list.  This one was an easy find thanks to a clue I got from the item’s description page on geocaching.com It was hidden behind a tree just a few feet off the main trail and, right away, I was thanking my lucky stars that I remembered to put use some Off or else I’d have been a buffet for all the mosquitos in the area!  At this first location, I found a Travel Bug which is an item that looks like a dog-tag and has a serial number.  When you find one, if you take it, you have to register the find on the web site and then bring it to another cache later on.  My plans are to bring it to Washington State next time I’m down in Bellingham and find a cache in there to leave it in.  This particular TB (as they’re referred to by the geocaching crowd) has a goal to reach Japan, so I guess bringing it into the US from Canada is a good start!

The second cache was hidden at a Viewing Tower that I had visited a few weeks back when I went for a walk in the park.  When I got there, two girls were sitting at the top of the tower in bikinis having a picnic.  When they heard me rustling around in the brush under the tower, they said hi and I told them I was looking for something – they asked if I had lost something and I told them about geocaching and they were very intrigued.  I was hoping I would have found it while they were still there, but unfortunately I didn’t locate it until a few minutes after they left.  This one was cleverly tucked inside a space under the top platform that I just happened to notice and was like “no way that’s it…” and it turned out it was.  I was particularly proud of this find! lol

The third and final cache of the day was pretty easy to find and I called it a day after trading items and signing the logbook.

Then, I had to scale the train car again to get back to the studio.  I washed my car and hung out for a while and headed home.

Just finished watching a few episodes of Gene Simmons Family Jewels – that is one funny show! – and now watching The Two Coreys which is about Corey Haim and Corey Feldman of 80s movie fame.  Just weird to watch them as adults when I had posters of them in my room when I was a kid.

Jeez, I really need to work on being more succint in my writing.  Brevity is the soul of wit, apparently.  Guess I’m not very witty! lol
