Today has felt pretty hectic from the time I woke up at 10:33am. I had a hair appointment at Tech One at noon and I had to get up and get dressed and head out the door in order to have time to hit the drive-thru on the way down there.
I woke up from a really weird dream about Manon’s parents. I dreamed that I went to Montreal to visit them and her mom had started working again. Her dad had a little building out behind their place where he kept all his computer gear and he was watching some home movies of the family when Manon and Chantal were kids (I don’t even think such a thing exists, but this is a dream, so anything goes!). I was sitting on the grass outside watching and he comes out and says that I am ruining his whole week! I was so upset in the dream. I was trying to get out of there and was climbing up the stairs at the back of their place, but it was more like the railing and then it started to collapse and I wasn’t sure how I was going to get up or down!
The hair appointment went well. Julian did my highlights and then Colleen cut my hair. Confirmed her hetero status finally. She looks like one of those women who could go either way and I always felt she had sort of a gay vibe about her, but apparently not. She’s single and prefers it that way she said unless someone that is not a total idiot came along! That seems to be the challenge of most single people. Is that, perhaps, why the idea of singledom is so terrifying to me? Too bad she’s straight…I was thinking she might be a good option for Carol!
I got to the cash to pay for the haircut and colouring and the cashier said, “That’ll be $212, please…” and I was like, “WHAT?!?!?!” I went on to explain in a most shocked fashion that it was never remotely that much before! Julian (who is the owner of the salon) came over and said that it was because they did pretty well my whole head and also because he did it, he charges more. But, nice guy that he is, he charged me $100 instead of $130 (still not the $75 I’m used to!), so it came to about $170, taxes in. My god, I was expecting to spend about $120! But, you gotta pay for quality and next time, I’ll brace myself a little better before heading down!
Next stop was Canada Post to buy stamps for and mail all the holiday cards I stayed up until 4:30am writing in and addressing. There was a long lineup of people and, thank goodness, they had a separate line for just buying stamps! CTV was in there interviewing people – thank God, they didn’t approach me! So, I’m happy that I managed to get the cards in the mail finally. I always procrastinate because it’s such a lot of work! Saying that, I sound like Tracey, the union worker! haha
Speaking of work…I was exhausted last night after getting up at Tracey’s and heading back home. I forced myself to clean the bathroom and couldn’t clean the sink until I figured out how to unclog it so the water would actually drain out! I looked online to see how to take the stopper thingie out and I got under the sink with some pliers and went to town. I felt like a real, live Ms. Fix-It! haha I managed to get the stopper out and, my GOD, at the ick that was almost completely blocking the cylinder the stopper was attached to. GUH-ROSS!! So, I cleaned it out (while stifling a gag!) and put it back in and then finished cleaning the bathroom. Then, I started some laundry and managed to get two loads done with the change I had on-hand. I made some chicken breast and parmesan pasta for dinner and we watched the Saints game – they won again, WAHOO!!! Then, I stayed up super late working on the Christmas cards and then went to sleep on the couch until Tracey got up at 6:00am for work.
After the salon and post office stops today, I headed back home and picked up the framed photos I did up for the folks at Joyce’s office. I brought one each for Barb, Cherie, Agnes and Jason and a multi-photo frame for Joyce, though I have to wait a painful three more weeks before she returns to open it! I hate waiting to give people presents! I want them to open and love them now! lol Everyone really liked the photos and frames and said it was very thoughtful. I think Barb was shocked that it was such a nice picture of her. Cherie said she has no good pictures of her at all. All in all, I was really pleased with how well it went over! 😀
Speaking of presents…I was talking to Laina online last night and she was going on about how stupid Tracy is (no news there) and said “Oh, she bought me that shower curtain I wanted!” and I was like “Great. Problem. Hope you have two showers…” I spent $50 on that goddamned thing and now I feel like taking it back and getting her something else. I only bought it for her because she went on and on about how she really wanted it, so I was looking forward to seeing how happy she’d be for me to have gotten it for her. I dunno what to do. Must think it over…
Not sure what to do with the next couple of hours. I need to work on my holiday e-card, but perhaps I’ll leave that for tomorrow. We’re supposed to go out to Tsawassen to pay Sheila for the Whistler condo rental. I’m sooo looking forward to being in Whistler for Christmas time, though we’re not driving up until Christmas night or Boxing Day morning. I’m excited about getting to try out the new snowshoes!
I have a headache right now, so I am going to leave off here for the moment.
Added at 11:55pm:
I took a little cat nap (complete with cat lying on my chest thanks to Ferris) and Tracey and I went out to Tsawassen to get the key from Sheila and pay her. We went by White Spot for dinner before heading to her house. The friggin’ burgers and fries there kick ass! Also, the coleslaw with the sunflower seeds added is also quite tasty!
We went by Sheila’s and then I drove us back home. Tracey was complaining about the fact that they’ve changed out the real fireplace for an electric one. I agree, but I’m still happy that we got a place for so little money ($125 a night compared with $350+ for any other place up there!) and it’s cute, cozy, not far from town and only steps from several snowshoe trail options. I just want to focus on the good parts of the situation (which are, in my opinion, many) rather than picking the situation apart because of one drawback. She does this weird thing when we’ve made plans to go away where she gets scared of going away, like worried something bad isgoing to happen. Inevitably, once we’re on our way, she gets over it.
Laina is taking her citizenship test tomorrow – hope she does OK! I’m sure she will since I think she’s a pretty good student, as was I back in the day. Speaking of school….I should get on picking a class for the Spring semester. I am going to try to take three classes in 2008, probably starting with the Package Design class I wanted to take this fall. I was thinking I’d like to take a bookmaking or screenprinting class or something like that. I’d really like to do something hands-on. I really miss that aspect of framing. I was thinking earlier that it would be cool to have a combo photography/framing business. Could I manage to get a photography/design/framing place together? Would that be uber weird and make the design part seem cheap and desktop publishing-like? Probably…hmmmm. That doesn’t mean I couldn’t start more than one business and have people work there on my behalf! Mooo haaaaaaaa haaaaa! lol
My mom got the package I sent her today. I’m shocked that it arrived so quickly! I was worried that it wouldn’t even make it there on time for Christmas, much less a week early! But, I’m glad she got it already so I don’t have to keep ignoring her comments about only having $7 left in her checking account after bills when I know there was $150 on the way to her that I didn’t tell her about. I suck at keeping surprises!
Going to read for a while and possibly head to bed early-ish tonight.
