I Should Really Be Sleeping, But…

My memory sucks, so I want to try to document some of the goings-on of the past week or so.

Tracey did something really sweet the other day.  She wanted me to help her download a song from the Internet.  When she asked, I was taking a cat nap on the La-Z-Boy and responded grumpily “I am tired, I don’t feel like giving you a computer tutorial right now…I’ll show you tomorrow…”.  She said “Well, I’m working on something and it’d really help me out if you could just help me get something”.  So, I said fine, helped her get a classical song – Canon in D – and then I asked her what she was up to.  She grinned sheepishly, replying “Nothing…” with a little “teehee” in her voice.  So, a few minutes later, after spending a while peering intently at the screen, she popped up off the couch and put a DVD into the player.  When it started, the song I helped her download was playing while various photos from trips we’ve taken appeared on the screen with various transitions and stuff.  When you hit play on the menu it said “Carly,  good times…bad times, gimme some of that.  Love, Tracey”.  Then, at the end of the “movie”, it said “To the girl of my dreams, let’s have more good times.  TLC Productions”.   TLC is something she engraved into the silver band she made for me in her jewelry class, so I really got a chuckle from that.  I thought it was a thoughtful and sweet thing to do and just giggled at the whole thing.

Then, on Saturday, we were supposed to help Laina move and, when we got up, Tracey started cleaning up around here…..the cat box, kitchen and even offered to vacuum if I’d pick up some of the stuff lying around, which I did promptly and with glee – I hate vacuuming!

The whole Laina moving thing was a big joke.  We were supposed to pick her up at the SkyTrain at 10:00am, but Jesse was sick on Friday again so we thought we were going to have to take her in to see the vet again. When Tracey called, they said to wait until Monday, so we got some breakfast at James Street Cafe, went to the Central Park Management Plan meeting and then, at 2:00pm, picked Laina up since she hadn’t managed to drag her ass over here to pick up the moving van before then.  We ended up at Tracy’s place around 4:30 and helped fill the van and unpack it at Laina’s new place and then headed back here.  The plan was to go to the Reaper wrap party, but it was snowing like mad and it was crazy even driving over to help with the move, much less back out into it for a party.

Tracey worked on Sunday and it snowed like MAD!   The Saints game was on and I was supposed to start the recording when it came on, but I stayed in the park too long, having meant to start the DVR before I left and having forgotten because of having to empty the camera’s memory card before heading to the park.  I missed the first 10 minutes of the first quarter of the game and Tracey gave me shit when I called her.  We got into a little snit about that and I told her that I apologized and that I wasn’t taking any more shit for something so insignificant in the greater scheme of things.  She emailed me later (which she never does, particularly not about an argument) saying that she didn’t know why she reacts that way but that it was because she was disappointed and that she was sorry and still wanted to come over and watch the game and make the steaks she had prepared the night before.  So, she came over and we watched the game and had the steaks with mashed potatoes/yams.  The DVR screwed up and froze up at like 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter.  I was pissed!  The Saints lost the game anyway and totally shouldn’t.  Sean Payton called a trick play and Reggie Bush screwed it up with a shoddy reverse toss.

This week has been a bit slower with work and stuff like that, so I’m enjoying the time sans a constant barrage of phone calls and emails.

I went for a meeting with Carol earlier today about re-designing her postcards and an email template. She wants to use one of my snow pictures to put on Christmas cards to send out and is going to put my name and web site URL on the back of the cards.

Tracey and I went snowshoe shopping and picked up some at MEC along with carry bags and collapsible poles.  We’re both pretty excited about going snowshoeing, so I hope the mountains get some snow on them soon!  We looked on Ebay after we got home to see that the top of the line snowshoe is $25 less on there than we paid for the model below that, so we’re going to return the ones we got to MEC and order the other ones off Ebay. Hell, why pay more for lesser quality?

Lynn went with me to Andrew Barber-Starkey’s Success Blueprint workshop this evening which was pretty interesting.  I liked the info he gave us, but not so much the hour-long, “I’m not promoting ProCoach” promoting he did for his coaching system.  I don’t mind him giving us a bit of a sales pitch as part of his presentation, but I thought it went on for far too long.  We had gone to his Seven Success Accelerators seminar before and it was free to attend which I thought made sense considering the length of his pitch.  But, I paid $39 for us to go to this one and it seemed annoying to have 1/3 the time we were there spent on him trying to sell us something.  I generally don’t pay money to have someone try for an hour to sell me something, so that was a bit annoying.  Also, he gave us no bathroom break – three hours and no pee break – wtf?  Some of the info he gave us was really interested, though.  He talked about how things start out in a Metaphysical Level – as very abstract and freeflowing.  Then, it moves into a Conceptual Stage where it becomes ideas, dreams, vision, etc.  Then, from there, it starts to take shape as Goals and then Plans.  From there, people usually get stuck at the Transformation Stage where fear gets in the way of moving the thing into the Physical Level where action takes place, but things move much slower and are subject to physical laws, etc.  Pretty interesting stuff.  Also, he said that he heard Dr. Laura tell a caller that the way to increase self-confidence is to “Impress Yourself” every day.  Not a bad plan, eh?

I bought some nice large poster frames on sale at the new Michael’s on Byrne Road last night, so now I’m on the hunt for some of the movie posters I’ve always wanted so I can fill them with cool ones and hang them up.  I finally got the four little square silver frames that I got from IKEA up on the wall, too and they look awesome next to my silver-framed bulletin board.  I put two samples each of the NALH, Pacific View, Filmwell and Bowerbird House concept business cards, mounted on black cardstock.  It definitely looks sharp!  I put them there as a visual reminder that I CAN do good work, damnit!

I’ve not been for a walk at the park in the past few days and I feel like a slug.  I’m really unhappy with my weight right now – my waist seems to be getting thicker which is the last thing I want!  I was actually crying about it earlier, but I just need to stop eating all the sweet snacks and I think I’ll drop a few pounds pretty easily.  Also, I need to come up with some sort of system as far as how often I allow myself to eat junk or fast food so then I can measure my success or failure and make adjustments accordingly.

I’m exhausted and have to get up to go to my last counselling appointment with Eleanor at 11am. Then, I’m supposed to go to some info session about the Design program at Langara.  Wonder what they’re up to with that.  I can’t wait for Spring semester to start.  I’m soooooo going to make up for having not taken any classes this year!

Ok, off to bed for me!
