I can’t believe I’m going to say this and it is actually true. They finally did it! The Saints won the Super Bowl!
I had invited Tamara, Laina and Jen over for the NFC Championship game two weeks ago and we had a big tray of nachos that Laina made and other snacks while watching the game. I was yelling at the TV and freaking out (while wearing my Saints jersey, of course!) and Jen was laughing at me and rooting for the Vikings to get on my nerves. It was a really close game and I was so excited when they pulled it off. I talked to my Dad a couple of times and called Mrs. Judy and Mrs. Lynnda and Erick so share the excitement with them.
So, I decided to have a Super Bowl party and invite people over again. Ian and Rachel were supposed to come, but didn’t end up making it over. Jen, Bianca, Laina, Soo and her friend Katherine showed up and I made chicken and sausage jambalaya and cornbread for dinner and Laina and I made a cake which she frosted and tried to draw the Saints logo on it. It looked horrible! haha It tasted good, though. The frosting turned out bright yellow and was very unappealing to look at. lol The game was pretty good, but there was always that sense of “oh, God, I hope they don’t screw it up!” With all that happened in the game, it seems like it was just meant to be for them to win.
After the game was over, I just sat there mostly quiet – stunned! I can’t believe THE SAINTS WON THE SUPER BOWL! I called Mrs. Judy, Mrs. Lynnda, my Dad and tried to call Bonnie and Erick to share the excitement with them. It made me really sad that the two people I would normally most want to talk to about Saints football – my Mom and Tracey – were both gone from my life and I couldn’t share such an amazing moment with them. It really took a lot of the happiness out of it for me that I couldn’t talk to either of them. I seriously contemplated calling Tracey, but decided it would be a bad idea, so I didn’t.
Susan called me a while after the game and said that she and Tracey had gone to the wrap party for the show they were on and it was a Super Bowl party and that she went wearing her Reggie Bush jersey and that she was yelling at the TV and that when she asked Tracey if she was happy that they won that Tracey said it was bittersweet. A perfect way to describe how I felt at that moment, too.
OK, so I just gotta say it one more time…THE SAINTS ARE THE SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS! Wow!
