Seeing Ghosts

Sunday, July 26, 2009 – 11:23pm – Couch York City, Burnaby, BC

I just had the most gut-wrenching thing happen. I walked over to SaveOn to pick up some groceries and, just before I got to the door, I saw a lady that looked SO much like my Mom. She was going into the little Internet cafe next door to SaveOn. She had one of those little buggy things and I held the door for her so she could get in more easily. After I walked away, I lost it.  I went in SaveOn and was trying not to cry, but I couldn’t help it. I had just been thinking about my Mom two minutes before I saw this lady. I got my groceries and saw her again in the store just before I was heading to the cash. I told her that she looked so much like my Mom who had passed away in December and that it really jolted me to see her and I started crying again. She said “It’s OK to cry. In fact, it’s a good thing, so don’t feel bad about that!” and she told me that there was another lady who apparently lives in New West that people always mistake her for, too. She was a nice lady anyhow.

On the way to SaveOn, there were tons of fire trucks, police cars and ambulances all around the high-rise next to Future Shop. I asked a security guy what was going on and he said there was a fire on the 19th floor. I looked up and could see the window was black in the place that had the fire. There were a bunch of people sitting outside A&W, presumably some of them residents in the building, since they surely evacuated everyone. Scary stuff!

I spent Friday and Saturday night at Tracey’s house. It was pretty pleasant just hanging out there this weekend. Almost like a little vacation of sorts. I came home about 3:00pm today. I worked on some new t-shirt designs for my DG site and then laid on the couch at about 7:00pm and slept for two hours. Other than yesterday, which was – mercifully – a little cooler, it’s been so hot lately – in the 80s today – and I was exhausted after walking to and from the SkyTrain with a heavy backpack and a gym bag. I was covered in sweat when I got home.

We had some really weird weather yesterday – something I’ve never seen happen in the seven years I’ve been living here. It was overcast and then started thundering and lightning, which continued through the afternoon and evening. The only time it’s ever thundered in all the time I’ve lived here, it’s always hailed. I kept waiting for it to hail yesterday, but it never did.

I’m looking forward to getting this situation with my tooth resolved on Wednesday. It’s now swollen on the side between the tooth that’s coming out and the one in front of it and it’s been hurting like hell. The gland under my jaw is swollen and it’s been hard to sleep.

I stocked up on soft stuff to eat while I was at SaveOn. Been there, done that, so I know I will not want anything remotely crunchy or sharp in my mouth for at least a few days after I get the tooth out. I hope the fact that it’s swollen now will not prevent them from taking it out. I am going to call them tomorrow to see what they have to say.

I’m supposed to see Lynn and the kids on Tuesday and then, hopefully, be going to a VBOT networking meeting at 4:00pm. I need to get out there again and this is – so far as I know – a free event, so it may be a good opportunity for me.  The Bachelorette finale is supposed to be tomorrow night. I’m interested to see what’s going to happen.

Going to help Jim integrate his Zazzle store on his site and then relax for a while. Maybe I’ll try to read later.
