It’s just before 10:00am on Saturday morning and I woke up about half an hour ago. I was having dreams about Verdie and Mawmaw again, but this time, Verdie was alive and Mawmaw was dead. I was at the house on 13th Avenue and in Verdie’s room and she and I were looking through Mawmaw’s clothes and speaking of her in the past tense. It’s really weird considering that Verdie died 20 years ago and it’s been only about a month since Mawmaw died.
In a way, dreams like that are good. In the dream, it feels like you’re actually spending time with someone you care a great deal about and miss a helluva lot as well. But, it’s also upsetting to have those dreams when you wake up – at least if you’re like me and dreams like that tend to feel very real.
I also had a weird dream about my dad recently where it felt like there was a very weird, heading-towards-inappropriate vibe in the dream. I’ve had those types of dreams before about him and also about Deidre as well. I told her about it and she said she’s had similar dreams about me as well. Those types of dreams are particularly disturbing and icky!
Manon is coming over today to hang out. We’re going to the military surplus store in New West to look for buttons that match the ones on my dad’s Air Force uniform jacket which I want to have put on the new black, double-breasted coat I got from Jones New York when we were in Oregon. It’s super sharp-looking but I wanted to make it a bit more my own and I was trying to figure out where I could get cool buttons for it when I realized that I still have my dad’s USAF coat and, lo and behold, it has cool silver buttons on it! I’m not sure the surplus place will have the ones I want, but I’m bringing the jacket with me for comparison so I get the same type as what’s already on it. I’m a little hesitant to take the ones off my dad’s coat, but you can always sew buttons back on, so I guess it shouldn’t be a big deal. There’s a set of 20 of the buttons I want on Ebay, so if the surplus store doesn’t have them, I’m gonna bid high on those suckers so I am sure to get them! The person selling them also is including some USAF sergeant patches which is cool.
Speaking of patches…..I got Tracey to try on dad’s jacket last night since I’ve never seen anyone actually have it on. She reached in the pocket and pulled out a patch that looked somewhat familiar, but that I didn’t know was there. It has three stripes on it and the circle/star motif that’s part of the USAF insignia. I was so stoked! I wasn’t sure if it was my dad’s, so I phoned him up and asked him about it. He said that it sounded like it was his. He was working at a football game concession stand at RH Watkins – his old high school – and I asked him if he could send me a gym shirt from Watkins and he said he would. Cool! I was looking for an old-school gym tshirt on Ebay but hadn’t found anything, so that will be cool to have one from his actual high school.
I finished reading Nikki Sixx’s book, The Heroin Diaries, a couple of nights ago. It was a good book and a real page-turner ,though because it was diary entries, it was shorter in content than a normal book. The commentary by him and other people involved in his life at the time bulked it up a bit, but the book has a lot of design elements on the pages that take up a bunch of the room. It was a very well-designed book – each and every spread in the page has illustrations, photos, “splatters” of black or red ink with song lyrics or quips about this or that – very well thought-out. It always bums me out a bit to finish reading a book that I really like. While I whip right through them because I enjoy reading them, it’s sad for it to finally come to an end and then I have to find another book I like to read. I’ve read tons of biographies at this point – Tracey’s mom got me started reading them for some weird reason. I guess it’s because she had a lot of them at her house and it intrigued me and gave me the idea to start reading books about people I like or am interested in. I have a ton of her biographies on my shelves here and they are very special to me.
I won another old concert shirt on Ebay last night – this one is the half Allister Fiend, half skeleton shirt that I had from the Dr. Feelgood tour back in 1990. I was stoked to see that one on there and it actually has Baton Rouge, LA on the back. The other one I’m bidding on now is the old Poison shirt that has the blue bandana looking Poison logo and pictures of them from the Open Up and Say Ahh era. There was a Nelson shirt on there that I was going to get and send to Bonnie as a ha-ha reference to our sneaking off to see the Nelson show in New Orleans which resulted in her getting into trouble and having her car taken away for a while. lol But, I just looked and the bids are up to $20 or so now and I am not interested in spending $25+ on it.
I hung out with Tracey at her house last night and then came back here after she went to bed. I finally brought Evan Almighty back after finally watching it at Tracey’s last night. It was sorta dumb and the idea behind the story was totally flawed as well. Only a portion of the area he was in was being flooded, so why was it necessary to send animals from all over the world to board an ark when they were in no danger in the area in which they lived? Stupid! Also, the Bible says that a rainbow appeared after the Great Flood as a promise that God would never flood the world again. I just thought it was a stupid movie and Wanda Sykes stole the show and she was only a supporting character in the movie! I may try to look up some of her stand-up or borrow her book from the library since I just found out she has one last night. She’s friggin’ hilarious! I rented I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and Sicko last night from Rogers. They have a stupid new policy where you pay $4.50 for a single night rental of a new release and then, if you want to keep it, you pay $1 extra per day up to $4. This new policy sucks and I may start going to Blockbuster again or just not renting movies when they’re uber-new. Rogers has had this excellent thing for a while where you rent a movie and, so long as you bring it back within 30 days, you don’t get dinged for a late fee. So, I’ve been renting a few movies at a time and watching them whenever I get a chance and then bringing them back. I guess lots of people were doing the same, so they had to figure out a way to get people to bring the movies back so they’d have some in for renting to other folks. But, it still sucks when the deal was so sweet before! Now there’s all this pressure to hurry up and watch something and me no likey!
I should get up and go for a walk at the park before Manon starts heading in this direction. My ankle has been bothering me lately and I am not sure if it’s because of the change in the weather to the colder, wetter winter temperatures or if I’ve aggravated my injury somehow. I did go swimming last week a few times and it does bother me a bit to kick when I swim, so perhaps that’s the cause? Who knows. I just know it sucks to still have problems with it a year and a half after having sprained it in the first place. Damnit!
Wish me luck on finding the buttons I need for my coat!
