It seems like I intend to post more frequently and then end up distracted by other stuff and don’t get around to it. I hate that when things are going better, I tend to post less. Important to document the good, n’est-ce pas?
For American Thanksgiving, Laina and I decided to host a full-on turkey dinner and invite a bunch of people over. I invited Jen Braun, Soo, Tamara, Bogi, Bianca and Theresa, so there were 8 of us altogether. We had it on the Saturday after American Thanksgiving because everyone had to work on Thursday, including Laina, and I wasn’t about to cook a whole holiday dinner by myself!
Laina and I got up and start cooking and she did a great job on the turkey. We had – get this – 10 POUNDS of mashed potatoes! She insisted that people liked mashed potatoes, so we had to make tons so everyone would have enough. LOL Needless to say, we didn’t end up eating even half that much! It was a source of laughter around the table, so it wasn’t all bad. haha
In addition to the turkey and potatoes, we had cornbread dressing that I made which turned out kick-ass! Marlene had told me to put a can of cream of chicken soup in it and it really helped make it moist. We also had cranberry sauce and Brussels sprouts and rolls. Tamara brought some homemade Hungarian goulash which was quite tasty. There was a fruit tray, a meat and cheese tray and Bianca made this yummy dessert with sweet cherries. I made a chocolate dream pie and Laina made pumpkin pie, so we were not remotely short on food!
We set up Laina’s folding table down the middle of the living room – after I’d rearranged the furniture in a number of configurations trying to figure out how to make room for the table and all the chairs – and it worked out fine. We had a nice arrangement of flowers in the center of the table and we all chowed down heartily.
The kitchen was a hellacious mess, but it’s to be expected with that amount of food and guests. At least I was smart enough to go with paper plates and plastic cutlery to cut down on dirty dishes. Plus, I don’t have 8 place settings anyhow.
After we ate, we hung out and chatted for a little while and Tamara decided to give me another lapdance. It was hilarious. I turned beet red and couldn’t stop laughing.
All in all, it was a successful night and it felt good to have some new friends over. It should be noted that I typed this entry on April 27, 2010. Trying to fill in some gaps by finishing some entries I started and have been saved in the Drafts folder for some time.
