May 30, 2010 – Laina’s Bed – Vancouver, BC
I hate it when I don’t write for a long time, then the first thing I say when I do is how Long it’s been since I wrote. Something unique about this post is that I am typing it on my three-week old iPhone. At long last i’ve replaced the maddingly slow ipaq that I’d had for several years. Trying to figure out whether to sell it or give it to someone. Maybe Will but dunno if his phone takes a SIM card or not.
I’ve been really busy the past few weeks. Last Saturday, Laina and I went to a Vancouver Whitecaps soccer game at Swangard Stadium in Central Park. They played against the Rochester Rhinos, which is the city Laina’s from. I really didn’t have much of a clue what was going on except when they scored. The Whitecaps won 2-0. On Sunday, I invited Jackie and Mario over to BBQ with us. We had steak, chicken and sausage with potato salad and an asian coleslaw. It was tasty but it was the first time I’d used the new BBQ since I got it, so I overcooked the meat a bit.
Laina and I drove out to Golden Ears Park on Monday since it was Victoria Day and she had the day off – Laina, not Victoria. We took our backpack chairs and got some sandwiches at Subway and had a little picnic on the rocks along Gold Creek. It was so amazingly beautiful there. I am so lucky to live in such a gorgeous place!
I’ve been a bit better the past couple of weeks or so about working. I’m in the process of building the BOOST site and finished up the Intricate Glass site on Friday. It always feels good to finish a project and I’m proud of myself for maintaining some momentum.
Laina and I went to a Social Media Club Vancouver meeting on Thursday night. Kemp Edmonds, the guy that did the social media presentation at the Rotary meeting the week before, was there as one of the presenter. I live-tweeted the whole event and met a few new people while there. Always neat to meet people in real life when you’ve met them online initially.
We went to FreelanceCamp 2010 yesterday which was an all-day event where people presented on different topics of interest to freelancers. I met a ton of people there who I’d see on Twitter in addition to a bunch of people I’d not followed before the event. I’ve gotten something like 45 new followers on my person Twitter account in the past few days. Pretty neat stuff. I like the idea of doing live-blogging at events. I’m going to include that as part of the service listing on the BOOST site.
We came back to Laina’s last night to do laundry. Now it’s all done and I can’t believe how little pain and aggravation was involved. Got a new comforter set for my bed so that will be part of my chores line-up later.
I have to say I’ve turned into a bit of an iPhone addict. It really is the neatest gadget ever! I’ve been playing a Scrabble-like game with a bunch of people, including Laina, Bonnie, Tisha, Jeb and a couple of random people from the States. I’ve only lost two games so far out of over a dozen. I’ve also been playing backgammon, which I used to play with my mom when I was a kid. I’ve really been enjoying the mobile version of HootSuite and been playing with Foursquare, too. Laina and I compete to see who can check in first and who can oust who as mayor.
We finished out squash lessons a couple of weeks ago. I might sign up for more. I really like Linda (the teacher) and it was fun to have it to look forward to every week. I’d still like to find someone to play with regularly. I got a new racquet and it makes a huge difference.
I also finished my women’s strength training class and have been doing weights with dumbbells 2-3 times a week for about a month or so. I can tell th difference in my arms and shoulders and my boobs are even a little perkier. Bonus! Lol I’ve been jogging, too, but my ankles give me problems so it’s been sporadic.
I’ve not been thrilled that I gained back the 20lbs I’d lost and a lot of my pants are too tight for me to wear comfortably. That’s a big part of the reason I’ve been exercising so much, but it’s been frustrating that I’ve not lost any weight in spite of all the working out. Since I got the Nike SportBand, I’ve been walking a lot more. I typically walk around the park twice now which is just under 4 miles. Laina got one, too, and has been doing great with walking tons.
Don’t remember the last time I posted, but I got to meet Mantracker at the Outdoor Adventure Show a month or so ago. That was really cool! Got my picture with him and got his autograph. The major bummer of the day was losing my SportBand when it popped off my wrist, presumably when one of the straps from my mini-backpack caught it and pulled it off. Crap! Cost me $90 to replace it. Now I’m paranoid of losing the new one, so I’m always checking to make sure it’s securely fastened.
Laina’s birthday is in a couple of weeks. Not sure what we’re doing yet, but I ordered her a replacement for her Starbucks Toronto mug that got broken when she flew back from there. Cost me $45 including shipping. Customs will probably hit me up for more, too.
Gotta drag my butt up and get dressed to head back to Burnaby. Glad to have caught up in here a bit!
