I have never (to my recollection) seen a lunar eclipse, particularly not one where you see the eclipse in totality, so I decided to stay up to have a look. The cool thing about being a night owl in general is that it’s not that difficult to stay up until 2:45am to see interesting celestial events.
I brought my point and shoot camera outside to take some photos and video clips. None of them are great, but this one shot isn’t too bad, so I thought I’d share. This is the beginning stages of totality which was clearly visible from my location in Burnaby, BC. When I started watching, there was a thumbnail of bright white left and then it slowly faded to red as it slipped fully into Earth’s shadow. So weird that this sort of stuff really happens – seems like science fiction somehow!
