At long last, I have finally achieved one of my dreams – to win a stuffed animal of significant size at the Fair! We were at the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition – the equivalent of a State Fair – held in Vancouver yearly) last night and were looking around at the different games that were there. When I was a kid, my mom would take me to the Fair and I always wanted to play the games and win a big stuffed something-or-other! But, because we didn’t have much money, I didn’t usually get to play any of them – except the game where you won a goldfish if you get the ping-pong ball in the bowl (incidentally, I never won a goldfish either…).
We stopped at a booth that had a game where you put a toonie – which, for the uninitiated, is a Canadian $2 coin – on the square with the name of your birth month in it. Then, a giant die is rolled that has all 12 months of the year on it. If your month comes up, you win. Simple! So, I decided to give it a go, put my $2 on March and, lo and behold, March came up when the die was rolled! I was so excited that I finally won something I could haul around for the rest of the night feeling proud when other people passed by and didn’t have one; a feeling I know well! I chose a stuffed duck as my prize – ducks have the cutest butts in the world! – and walked off beaming! “Quackers” is sitting happily on my dresser with some other stuffed cuties, none of which I’ll ever be as proud to have there as he!
Now, I know some people will read this and say “jeez, you don’t get out much, eh?”. Well, the truth is, to me, life really is about being able to be happy and excited about the small stuff. And, I’m happy to say, that describes me pretty well.
There’s more to say, but I have to get something to eat – but I’ll guarantee it won’t be duck! 😀
