I woke up at Tracey’s and hung around there for a while before dragging my feeling-like-crap carcass onto the SkyTrain to come home. I was dismayed to learn that the women’s US Open final had been postponed due to crappy weather being caused by Tropical Storm Hanna.
I watched some TV and walked over to SaveOn to deposit the checks I got from Ian and to stop by the dollar store to see if I could get some of those magnetic key holders so I could make a couple of other geocaches to stick onto metal surfaces somewhere. After trying two of the dollar stores, I ended up going to the little shop near SaveOn that cuts keys and paid $3.99 each for two of them, which I thought was outrageously high, but I wanted them, so I forked over the cash.
I came back and made a makeshift, tiny logbook and taped a label on the front of the container and headed to the park. I had been reading logs for a cache in Central Park called "Master of da Skies" that hadn’t been found since July of 2007 and had a ton of "did not find" logs. Lots of people also said that they had to go out multiple times to find it. It’s an "urban camo" cache, which means that the container would not be a typical container. I got to the coordinates pretty quickly and started to look around. I had read something about a rock in a previous log, so when I saw a rock unusually placed in a crevice in the trunk of a tree in the vicinity, so decided to move it and see if there was anything underneath. I saw something white barely peeking out from the soil and grabbed a stick to move some of the dirt around and see if it was the cache. A golf ball. I laughed and grabbed it to see a little ring sticking out of one side of the ball. What a clever idea. I pulled the tiny log container out of the ball – it was about 3/4" long and the top screwed off to reveal what used to be a tiny piece of paper serving as a log. It was basically pulp at this point, so I replaced it with a piece of paper out of my pocket which I eagerly signed and snapped a few photos of before putting the cache back in its hiding place. I was feeling pretty puffed up about my find considering all the others who had a hard time with it and also because it was a 4 out of 5 difficulty, which is the toughest one I’ve found so far. It was also my 45th find. It’s fun being this dorky! 🙂
Tracey came over after work and we ordered Chinese food since I was feeling a bit better and was starving from having barely eaten anything yesterday or today. We played a game of Scrabble, which I won by 1 point, much to Tracey’s dismay. I thought it was funny. She has gotten really good at Scrabble, so I really have to make an effort to keep up with her.
Just laying on the chair now contemplating whether I want some ice cream. I think I do. On that note, I’m off!
