Child’s occupation – February 19, 1992

I definitely would not want to choose my child’s occupation for him. That would be denying him one of the most personal decisions that he would ever have to make. If it were up to my mother, I would probably be on my way to medical school or into pre-law. I don’t see how a person could want to do that. I would feel bad thinking that I had cheated my own child out of a career he may have wanted. I just know that I’d be really upset if my mom had done that to me, even if I liked what I was doing. It’s just the thought of someone else making the decision that will have such a huge impact on my life. I don’t think anyone should have that much say-so in another person’s life. That’s what America is all about.
