Mardi Gras update – March 4, 1992

Well, we did go to New Orleans Monday. The start of it was a disaster. We were completely unorganized. We didn’t leave until almost 3:00 Monday afternoon. It was an okay ride up there, the weather was really beautiful. The sun was setting over Lake Ponchartrain. It was what I’d call a "Kodak moment". When we got there, we went the completely wrong way. We ended up at the other end of town. We finally decided to buy a map. I sorta navigated our way to the French Quarter. We paid $9.00 to park, which was pretty good considering other places were charging $15.00. We went walking down through all the people. there was music, lights and just about very type of person you could imagine. there was a guy that was painting faces and he asked us if we wanted our faces painted. We didn’t have any money, so he told me to close my eyes. He put glitter on my eyelashes and told me to look around. It was really neat. The glitter caught all the light and it looked like little dots of light everywhere. Then, we did the unthinkable. We went down Bourbon Street. Nobody messed with us, but it was just strange. One thing I must mention is we accidentally walked in front of a gay bar. We didn’t know. We were just walking along and there were all these really cute guys standing around. Then, a couple of them started kissing and we were like, "Oh, God! Get us out of here." So, we just went on our merry way. It was an experience to say the least.
